Kerala Zone Digi Dhan Mela :: Inauguration and Exhibition Views
Kerala Zone Digi Dhan Mela Organised at CIAL Cochin, Ernakulam on 12/11/2017 in
the august presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal and other Dignitaries.
Lack of awareness of digital financial literacy, especially among the rural population
is a major challenge in the country, more so in light of the Government’s recent
demonetization and plans to make India a cashless economy. There is an urgent need
to create awareness among the citizens, especially in rural and semi-urban areas
regarding basics of digital finance services.
As part of the Government of India initiative to move on to Digital Payments, an
awareness programme was conducted at Kendriya Bhavan, Kochi on 23/12/2016 organised
by NIC SDTC Kochi. Mr.Sateesh Kumar, Lead District Manager, Union Bank also welcomed
to the workshop and interacted with the audience in clearing their queries.
Officials from various central government departments located at Kendriya Bhavan
gathered for the programme. The session went on to interactive mode with the participants
and explained the features on various modes of digital payment; like USSD, UPI,
Credit/Debit Cards, Adhar Enabled Payment System were briefed and educated to the
participants.
The project titled “Digital Finance for Rural India: Creating Awareness and Access
aims to enable Digital Financial hubs , by hosting awareness sessions on government
policies and digital finance options available for rural citizens as well as enabling
various mechanisms of digital financial services such as IMPS, UPI, Bank PoS machines
etc.
The overall objective of the project is:
- To enable Digital Financial Education Hubs, by hosting awareness sessions focused
in their community and Panchayat
- To inform rural citizens about government policies and about digital financial options
available to them
- To enable citizens to access and use electronic payment system (EPS) such as IMPS,
UPI, Bank PoS machines etc...
- To sensitize and enable merchants at Panchayat level to use Electronic Payment System.
- Create awareness in rural India through workshops and awareness drives.
